Chintz jars by Virginia Graham with a big helping of vintage charm.
Taking inspirations from historical ceramics and vintage patterns, these ceramics combine nostalgic imagery with playful colours.
The lidded jars feature delicate floral patterns, bold pastel colours, and metallic handles reminiscent of sink taps. Perfectly formed and ready for use storing cotton buds, reusable face pads, or simply sat on the window ledge in a bedroom.
They are handmade by Virginia Graham who builds them by rolling and shaping a flat slab of stoneware clay. Her process can be seen in the finished piece - the seams of the clay slab are edged with black slip. Together with the unexpected tap handle design, this gives a contemporary edge to the soft vintage style decoration.
- Made from stoneware
- Made by hand - so each piece is unique
- 120mm x 70mm (small), 145mm x 70mm (tall)
Virginia Graham uses a combination of slip casting and hand building techniques to create her work. The surface decoration includes slip painting, enamel transfer printing and metallic lustres which make reference to historical wares including the familiar blue and white stripes of Cornish Ware as well as industrial plumbing, and Victorian fabrics!
In 2014 she moved to the small Wiltshire town of Corsham where she now works from her studio at the bottom of the garden.
